Based on my coworker's original concept.
Here's the idea. Take any integer (whole number) greater than zero.
- If the number is even, divide it by 2.
- If the number is odd, triple it and add 1.
Keep on following the two steps above.
The Collatz Conjecture suggests that no matter which positive integer you pick, you'll always end up at 1 eventually.
We don't know if this conjecture is always true, but it's been shown to be true for every integer up to 260! Pick a number and try it for yourself!
